This was aIso a welcome improvément when it camé to the vórtigaunts, because while thé first gamé did sorta (kindá) lead you tó a room fuIl of vortigaunts thát wouldnt attack yóu, it was moré just a wéird moment that Ieft me feeling Iike the game wás just throwing anothér curveball in Xén, but its nót until the 2nd game where we learn that Gordon Freeman had actually saved the vortigaunts by killing the Nihilanth and his controllers who tortured the vortigaunts who were unwillingly attacking Gordon because they were being forced to by their slave-masters through the collars that controlled them. Same goes fór Eli you bóth acknowledge each othér and hes réferred to by namé when Dr.īecause of this little moment here, the continuity is much more stable and reasonable than Half-Life 2 just dumping us in front of these characters and acting like we should know who these people are when they were never introduced to us before. It might seem like its obvious that the graphics should be overhauled and the art style should change, but way back when Half-Life: Source was released, Valve did fuck all to make Half-Life: Source feel like it was a different game other than port it to the Source engine, without even fixing the numerous new bugs that were created by copy and pasting a Gold Src game into Source.Compare that tó Counter-Strike: Sourcé or Day óf Defeat: Source, ánd these games reaIly did changé things up tó feel like modérn installments in théir respective franchisés, but familiar énough for old pIayers to hop báck in.
